Does My Website Have To Be Really Fast?

Why Site Speed Matters And Why You Should Care

So if you are asking yourself, does my website really have to be that fast? The answer is yes. If you think you can get by without increasing the speed of your website, you are truly mistaken. For a good rule of thumb, make sure your website speed is faster than you can spell its name! If you want to know the reasons as to why the site speed is so crucial, here are a few:

Experience of the users:

When a user logs on to your website, they are expecting your site to load fast. No ifs ands or buts. These days people are expecting so much in terms of internet speed, performance and overall user experience. They are not going to wait for a page to load slower than what they are used to. Some studies show that if it takes more than 5 seconds to load, they are outta here. Scram, boogie, and roll on to the next guy. Most likely to your competition. You have to make sure your website gets them the relevant content they are looking for, whenever they require it, and at speeds that make them happy.

Search Engine Rankings

When websites are being ranked by Google or any other search engine, the speed of your website matters. When your site speed is fast, it will put you in a lot better place in the rankings than if it were slow. Google follows trends, and gives the people what they want, and what the people want is information now…not in a few seconds. This plays true especially on mobile devices. To help you in the search engine rankings, try using one of my favorite speed tools at pingdom.com. You can test your site speed along with check out detailed data of all the components that eat up loading time. There are also a lot of good file compression plugins out there for WordPress like Smush It. They minimize bulky information from your images, reducing the file size and do not lose quality in the process.

Conversion Is The Name Of The Game:

Let’s be frank here, if your website crawls from page to page like a turtle crossing a highway, you won’t covert. Converting leads or viewers into buyers is a big reason why you have a website to begin with. Not to many people these days will trust a website that is not up to date. I’m not saying you need to have the best website this side of the Mississippi. However, you need to take into consideration others. Your potential customers that is. As I mentioned previously in this post, Google gives the people what they want. That is why they are so successful. So we as business owners, need to make sure we are giving the people what they want too. And the consensus is out…the people do not want to wait anymore for a slow site.

It is of the utmost importance to make sure you increase the speed of your website. Once the speed has increased, you will gain more happy customers, better viewership and an increasing ranking from Google.
